Ride Day Reports

Harry's Track Day Report

Hi All

There has been talk about a track day (well from me anyway) and I asked Harry if he could do a track day ride report for me. So we can have a understanding what happen on one of those day.

Here is his report.

I would like to thank Harry for doing this report.

I have done three E/C ride days on the 02 Sprint ST.

Cost is about A$175.00 for the day but you can get group discounts.

The day starts off at 08:30, you can do a half day or full day that ends about 17:00

When you arrive you must have your bike scrutinised ( safety check ) and they also insist that
you have one piece leathers - that you can rent from them for the day. Cost is about A$45.00
I did see a few guys getting around in two piece leathers so not sure how strict that rule is.
But you must wear leather - no fabric stuff..

There are usually three ( sometimes four ) categories.
If only three they will combine B2 & C

A = Hot shot racers
B =  Would be hot shot racers
B2 =  Kinda fast riders
C = Beginners, low cc bikes and Harleys, etc..

Each time I have been there it was only three categories, so I ride in the B class.

You get the use of the pits for your bike and stuff.

If three categories,  you get 20 minuets on the track and 40 off each hour so over 8 hours you get about 2 1/2 hrs rack time.

Doesn't sound like a lot but you really know it towards the end of the day.

When your category is called you line up at the start line with about 20 to 30 bikes each session.
It is a staggered start so there is plenty of space, and plenty of overtaking.

There will ALWAYS be faster and slower guys / bikes so you get into your own rhythm and circulate
the track as fast (or slow ) as you like.  The marshals keep a very close watch on proceedings and will
flag you is you are going too slow in a fast category, or too fast in a slower category.

Overtaking is controlled, in the slower categories only passing on the outside is allowed, faster
categories, it's go for you life...

You get to learn a lot about your bike, it's potential and your own skill levels. I found it to be one
of the best experiences I have had on bikes.  I can get about 240 klm hour down the straight and
then you get to the very fast first l/h bend at the end of the straight, some sport bikes will pass you
on the straight but you can catch and pass a lot of them through the bends.

My best time was 1 min 58 secs, Rossi does it in 1 min 37 secs - but they tell me to get a sub 2 min
lap is not too shabby.,

I highly recommend the day to all serious riders - it's not really about going fast, it's more about
learning what you and your bike can do without the distraction of cops, cross and oncoming traffic, etc.

Det - cut and paste what you want from this but it gives you an idea of what it's about.

If anyone wants any more info get them to talk to the track booking office of I'd be happy to talk to any members.

Cheers mate..
